‘The Sacred Conspiracy’ from the Acephale magazine :
I recognize this from issue 1 of Acephale. It is the opening. NEED TO READ MORE KIERKEGAARD AND HEGEL.
Bataille’s fidelity to ecstasy rather than a principle of happiness. I don’t have much to comment on and it strikes me as something personal, and like I feel with Nietzsche I can’t try to analyze it too much, I’d rather let this one sink into the skin.
‘Inheritance, Property, and Marriage in Africa and Eurasia’ :

African peoples often don’t have a conception of marriage which includes a conjugal community of property. The dowry of a woman does not coincide with her possession of shared funds, she often dosn;t even get the property as a widow.
In the place these observations were made (By a Dutchman in 1704) these filiations of matrilineal.
Inheritance has a major role in articulating differences between Eurasia and Africa. Bilateral inheritance describes giving to children. This links the absence of dowry to the absence of diverging inheritance. It’s the inverse of denying dowry.
‘Diverging Devolution’ is the transmission of property between males or females. Also known as a ‘women’s property complex’.
In locations where women are subject to inheritance, there is an association with a greater risk in control of the marriage. However, these have to do with many factors involved in choosing suitable partners for a bride, and the author references cases in Hindu caste, the marriages of early Isreealite royalty, racial factor 4w, and the marriages of cousins which can disrupt these general trends and hypotheses.
A positive association between diverging devolution and monogamy, large families and polygamy come with distinguishing the plurality of funds.
Here is the centerfold of what he’s saying I believe and the part tht has to do with Bataille: “Intensive agriculture is virtually a condition of the extensive differentiation by styles of life that in turn encourages the concentration of property by inheritance and marriage.”Because of the overproduction (As in ‘over’ consumption’) supplied by intensive agriculture establishes highly explicit divisions of labor, which then in turn create a ‘stratification’ of styles of life. I did some investigating and it turns out that there was some influence by Marx. Goody is focused on how cycles of reproduction help to maintain kinship structures, and he does this explicitly by analyzing its relationship to (geographically, economically, socially) differentiated processes of inheritance which reveals itself as a tendency towards the retention of resources within the ‘basic’ -Maybe we should take basic in a Nietzchean sense, as of the base- re/productive unit i.e.e the nuclear family. The principle of the middle class, and in the Bataillean sense is the retention of unproductive expenditure as a means towards greater utility, but B would go further with the nihilistic implications of the principle of utility.
