“Those who criticize without creating, those who are content to defend the vanished concept without being able to give it the forces it needs to return to life, are the plague of philosophy.”

Marx Week – Intro/Intentions

So it begins… I wanted to just start of with the Grundisse because I’d heard it was important to the body of work as a hinge between the works of his earlier and older thought. Nietzsche serving as my main inspiration, I likened this piece to the Gay Science, and I find in it much to support the analogy in so far as it represents a step towards maturity in the writings. Literally. Both wrote and compiled these 2 texts around the age of 39. They are a relighting of the fire of youth. In this text Nietzsche uses the opportunity to step away from “Philosophy Proper” i.e. State Philosophy and transitions to a more dynamic kind of philosophy, a “Gay Science”. This goes without saying; read the books ( I have only read 1/4 of this book). It is in this ‘sense’ (And as we use sense father and further on keep Deleuze’s distinction between good/common sense) that Marx steps away from his more gerneralized attacks of German Idealism/State structures and moves to a broader critique of political economy as a whole; beginning to shed the moralizations of Socialism. He recognizes the “Sense of Science”. However, before commenting on the texts I read I first wish to postulate the idea the Marx does not realize ‘Gayness’ to its fullest potential.( See Twilight of the Idols, ‘Things the Germans Lack’ Section 3 ). My ‘thesis’ is that Marx dies a German. ( A conflict due in part to Nietzsche’s elitism and Marx’s importance of the proletariat? We shall see…)

Let us find out just how true this becomes.
